Construction of a new police station in Berchem.
In the heart of Old Berchem a new and visible district station was invested in for the Antwerp Local Police.

In the past, the existing building has served, among other things, as a gas station, a bank office armed with an above ground safe room and a restaurant. After a complete dismantling, the building was increased by 2 levels and completely packed with an alternating envelope of wood and glass. The wooden texture is a contemporary translation of the antiquated brick façades in the neighbourhood.

The extension is designed as a lightweight concrete skeleton with façades made of a wooden structure occupying the exterior joinery. The detailing is simple and tight.

Bureau Bouwtechniek is responsible for the complete construction-technical support of Julien De Smet Architecten from the tendering phase. BB is responsible for technical assistance during the design process, the layout of the implementation plans, the development of technical details, the blueprint of constructional specifications and estimates. BB leads the monitoring of the implementation.
