More and more people are moving into cities. This is a trend we see not only in Flanders, but internationally. What does this mean? That we will have to build more densely and therefore build more high-rise buildings.
Along the Leien in Antwerp, Hub architects, in collaboration with Bureau Bouwtechniek and interior architects Atelier Dialect, transformed a 1970s office building into the headquarters of the autonomous municipal company Stedelijk Onderwijs Antwerpen.
The new building is partially sloped to connect with the castle's basement. It consists entirely of insulating concrete. In one move, the sixty-centimetre-thick monolithic walls support and insulate the building.
The sustainability consultants at Bureau Bouwtechniek dream of making buildings greener and more efficient. To give shape to those dreams, they are at the forefront of developing tools that encourage the transition to more circularity.
