Ingenious infill creates two museum worlds in one

In 2011, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMKSA) closed its doors for a comprehensive renovation and expansion.

Thanks to an ingenious infill with ten new museum rooms and a 1-million-kilo steel structure, 40% more exhibition space was added without the structure and appearance of the original building suffering. This created two museum worlds in one, with the architectural contrast between historical symmetry and contemporary asymmetry guaranteeing a unique experience.
