GRO is a tool to measure and enhance the sustainability of construction projects. Clients and designers can use the tool during the different phases of a private or public project, both for new construction and renovation projects and refurbishment projects of existing buildings.

Sustainability tool GRO

Many aspects around sustainable building are qualitatively important but difficult to measure. Sustainability meter GRO tries to make these qualitative aspects measurable anyway and can be used for all types of buildings.

GRO was developed by the Facility Management Department of the Flemish government to implement a uniform and holistic ambition level in building projects in terms of sustainable and circular building. Via an integrated design process, GRO helps to make buildings future-proof and comfortable. The People, Planet, Profit principle provides the framework for this.

GRO translates the ambition of the client and/or the design team into a manageable and process-oriented instrument to increase sustainability at building level. At the same time, it is a manual to design more sustainably.

Besides determining the level of ambition, GRO is also an evaluation and monitoring tool to ensure that the predefined level is actually achieved. The assessment is done on the basis of defined performance levels. The criteria are divided into three performance levels: excellent, better and good.
