Master plan Rubens Castle Zemst approved

The bullet is in the church - or rather, in the castle: the Rubens Castle will become a vibrant place dedicated to Rubens, with a brasserie, guesthouse and space for conferences and associations.

After an extensive participation process with local residents, local entrepreneurs and experts, Tourism Flanders announced two possible future scenarios in March 2023: the castle as a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day, or rather the castle as a lively place for a broad public.

The master plan includes the restoration of the castle, forecourt and ponds and a vision for the future use of the buildings and outdoor space. The castle grounds will be a freely accessible park to explore and experience Rubens' landscapes. The site will be accessible to heritage enthusiasts, recreationists and local people, while existing natural values will be respected and enhanced.

The first restoration works will start in 2027 and the grand opening is planned for 2030.

Erfgoed en Visie developed an ambitious master plan for this unique site in collaboration with Omgeving, Dott Achilles. In this, we assisted them as sustainability and energy consultants.
