Where sustainability and design come together

Be-One is one of Belgium’s first fully integrated ESG office buildings. Apart from the foundations, there is no concrete in the building. Instead, it contains 3,500 m³ of timber. More than 1,000 solar panels are integrated into the façade and, together with the geothermal system, ensure complete energy neutrality.

An independent Life Cycle Analysis confirms Be-One’s exceptional environmental impact. Whilst an average European office building emits 528 kg of CO₂ equivalent per m², Be-One sequesters a net total of 235 kg of CO₂ equivalent per m².

The choice of timber saves 3.9 million kg of CO₂ compared to a similar concrete building – equivalent to driving 680 times round the Earth.

Continuum

The building is based on a biophilic vision in which nature, light and well-being take centre stage. There are no traditional storeys, but rather a gentle 600-metre slope that connects the entire space as a single whole.

A central atrium brings daylight deep into the building and forms the architectural heart of Be-One. The indoors and outdoors gradually merge, and nature is given a permanent place throughout the entire building.

The result is a working environment that feels calmer, more human and more connected.

As the architect’s technical partner, we apply our structural engineering expertise to ensure a smooth transition from design to construction. (development of construction details and the specifications)

We take the pressure off the architect by monitoring the realisation of design ambitions during construction and resolving construction-related issues from a structural engineering perspective.

We contribute our structural engineering expertise to the discussions between the architect and the contractor to jointly arrive at feasible and widely supported construction principles.
