This year was no different: only those whose expertise and strong imagination can transform "ordinary" landscapes into extraordinary projects stood a chance. The jury includes landscape architects who are among the absolute best in the world.

Among more than 250 entries, the landscape design for the casino of Middelkerke impressed the jury and won the 'Honour Award' in the category 'Concept - Large design'.

The design came about under the direction and supervision of Debuild and was created by the architectural firm ZJA and DELVA Landscape Architects, in collaboration with OZ and Bureau Bouwtechniek and a range of experts, who together form the Nautilus construction team.

"This is a special honour for both the team and myself," says Steven Delva. "This proves that it is perfectly possible, starting from an economic story, e.g. a project development, to also address many other social needs, often ecological ones. As long as there is integral thinking and cooperation. That is why we are also convinced of the power of our profession, effectively addressing the spatial challenges of the 21st century. In each case, we turn the design process completely upside down and take the landscape as a starting point to densify, green and make it sustainable."
