Women in Architecture

24.05.2024
Netwerk Architecten Vlaanderen (NAV) set up the Women in Architecture working group over a year ago. The working group examines the main causes of women's under-representation in the sector and thinks about solutions.

Data from the Order of Architects show that there are 36% female architects in Flanders (2020 figures), while for many years around 50% female students have been graduating from architecture and engineering-architecture courses. Especially after 35, female architects drop out.

The working group is trying to find out where the shoe pinches and is looking for concrete solutions. And guess what ... our fellow project architect Jolien Van Bever is one of the committed architects in the working group.

First achievement is a brand new networking event 'Women Building' that highlights the role of women in the construction world because "we are convinced that their presence and commitment will bring about revolutionary change."

At this event, six architects will present current challenges from entrepreneurship and inclusiveness to sustainability and digitalisation. In short: insights for anyone striving for progress in the construction sector. And guess what ... our sustainability consultant Katrien Van Lierop is one of the six.

Proud of you Jolien and Katrien. Great that you show your commitment. On to a more inclusive building culture! We're in.
