The Roma shines and sparkles like never before

After closing for almost three months, De Roma welcomes its first visitors on a brand-new oak parquet floor.
Opening ROMA

In addition to the floor, the front doors were also replaced, the entrance hall was refurbished, the imitation marble columns were renovated and the balcony was made safer.

This summer, everyone worked hard at De Roma. The previous floor, a linoleum floor from 2003, was clearly in need of replacement after years of intensive use – De Roma welcomes more than 200,000 visitors annually. A water leak accelerated the need for renovation. In order to manage this challenging project, an internal working group was set up in the autumn of 2024, which also called in Bureau Bouwtechniek, the company that was also involved in the installation of the original floor.

With an area of more than 750 square metres, laying the floor proved to be a feat of engineering. The top layer alone consists of 176,000 slats!

De Roma and Bureau Bouwtechniek

De Roma and Bureau Bouwtechniek first met in 2003. Under our guidance, the then abandoned cinema hall was transformed into a multifunctional concert hall without compromising the original character of the building. In 2015, we gave the building envelope a new energy-efficient makeover. Today, another decade has passed and the renovation of the 780 m² linoleum floor is on the agenda.

We supported the Roma in their choice of new floor finish using a decision matrix, which assessed factors such as hygroscopic behaviour, lifespan, cost price and ease of maintenance.
