The laying of the foundation stone of the Gemeentelijk Technisch Instituut Londerzeel (Teema architects in collaboration with Bureau Bouwtechniek) on 19 March 2013 was also the first stone of the Scholen van Morgen (Schools of Tomorrow) project and the starting shot for a total of 200 school buildings.
There is a major shortage of funds for school construction. That is why the Flemish government started looking for an alternative way to shorten the long waiting list in school construction. The school infrastructure catch-up exercise was thus created and established by decree.
A total of 66 teams of architects were selected to realise 165 projects, accounting for more than 200 new or renovated school buildings.
Principles of SvM are energy-efficient schools, which are at the heart of a living community and where the infrastructure does not hinder the development of the education of the future.
