Expansion of the existing RTBF-building. This new building will be the audio-visual centre of Charleroi, a new access to Mediasambre (a collaboration between RTBF and Télésambre) on the renewed Place de la Digue.
The high acoustic requirements, the energy performance requirements and the intended very good Breeam-label go hand in hand with the architecture. Among other things, special attention was paid to the detailed design of the acoustic inner walls and the façade. The façade is the outstanding project element that integrates all these stringent requirements.
In order to meet the high performance requirements of the building, a well thought-out and integrated design of the façade is indispensable. Various aspects such as required performance, desired materials and execution method, building cost, etc. were followed up from conceptual detailing to execution.
The front facade was designed as a curtain wall with large aluminium suspended cassettes with open and closed sections. These are structurally anchored to the posts of the curtain wall. The dimensions of the cassettes (90x40x500cm) made installation and anchoring a hassle.
