Masterplan

The existing site of RVT Sint-Anna is being transformed into a new residential care neighbourhood where various levels of care and different types of accommodation will be offered. A finely meshed network of public, semi-public and private outdoor spaces and gardens will more than compensate for the loss of the existing green space.

Some of the existing historic buildings, including the listed chapel and staircase hall, will be integrated into the new spatial structure. This will not only preserve the heritage value of the complex but also ensure that the existing spaces are given a meaningful new purpose.

Phasing

  • Phase 1: The existing rest and care home was largely demolished and replaced by a new-build residential care centre accommodating 180 residents, three care flats and a day care centre. The monumental old chapel (listed), the staircase hall and the adjacent U-shaped section of the main building were retained.

The project was carried out whilst the existing residential care centre remained partially in use. The new building was constructed on the lawn next to the existing residential care centre. As construction progressed, the old building was demolished.

  • Phase 2: the existing U-shaped building was partially demolished, whilst the chapel and the wing running parallel to Floraliënlaan were retained. The new U-shaped block was constructed at right angles to this existing wing, creating an internal courtyard flanked by the new service centre and orangery.

This phase comprises around a hundred supported-living flats and the new service centre.

Adequate parking facilities were provided on site to ensure that parking pressure in the surrounding neighbourhood would not increase. There is an underground car park covering 2,350 m² with around a hundred parking spaces for visitors and staff.

Bureau Bouwtechniek

Bureau Bouwtechniek provides full structural engineering support to the architectural firm HUB from the competition phase onwards and is responsible for technical assistance during the design process, the preparation of the structural specifications, the cost estimate and the supervision of the works.

We also took care of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPB) reporting and health and safety coordination.
