Corporate campus Sobinco

Together with Office CCXD & DROM architects, we are co-building the reconversion and expansion of the Sobinco business campus.
The BIM model is the key to successful collaboration.

Sobinco campus

The business campus is doubling its production capacity with a major expansion of the site. The project combines very clear logistical needs (production, storage, circulation) with a distinct architectural ambition: not “anonymous” industry, but a campus with character.

This expansion consists of five new volumes that together form a single industrial campus (gross approx. 22,500 m²). The largest is the warehouse (87.6 × 136 × 15 m) with a mezzanine. There is also a production terminal (47 × 157 m), the Terminal Office (office volume for engineers as main access), the Connector (link between old and new) and, as an eye-catcher, the Sobinco Tower: a sculptural tower/workspace with a 360° view.

Challenges

  • an office and utility building with a very high level of finishing: use of colours and materials with gold and pink accents, a Sobinco Tower (steel watchtower) as a brainstorming place for the office workers, including environmental landscaping to create an overall picture
  • create a meeting place in the armpit of 2 new buildings, inclined to each other
  • the new golden buildings stand as a central link between the old office building and the new warehouse
  • a golden metal skin of the office building and the production hall that are partly perforated and 'hide' the glazed thermal façade. At night, this results in the effect of a light box.
  • pink concrete slabs as exterior paving and also used here and there as façade cladding
  • steel structure plays a central role and is clad with a metal sandwich panel

‘Within the parameters of the design, we look for smart solutions that are technically sound and remain affordable,’ says Ilse Deckmyn. ‘That is our strength: enabling creativity without compromising on quality or regulations.’

BIM

Pretty much the entire extension of Sobinco was realised in BIM. We were responsible for the model architecture. Given the complexity of the many connections between the buildings and interventions in the existing state, the sub-buildings were integrated into one model.

The model stability was built by Mouton, Istema modelled the techniques.

As executive architect, we help the designing architects with all technical and financial issues so that they can fully focus on the design. We also monitor the implementation and ensure that the objectives and plan are always crystal clear for all partners, so that together we can realise our dreams.

Sobinco

During the execution ... on the roof

Inspection of the fixing anchors and the connection of the ridge and eaves. The thermal performance of the hall is optimised by developing execution details that leave nothing to chance in terms of wind and water tightness. Not in your wallet and certainly not for the environment.
