Conversion of a former industrial site in Brussels into a secondary school, 111 homes, a communal garden, sports infrastructure, an eco nursery and a public park.

At this stage, we are only working on the realisation of the French-language school, which will soon provide a new home for 700 pupils.

The Van Praet Bridge is known as a busy gateway to Brussels, but that is about to change. The ambition of city and master builder is to transform the neighbourhood into a sustainable and liveable one.

Van Praet master plan

The new district in Brussels-City, borough of Neder-Over-Heembeek, will rise between Vilvoordsesteenweg and Heembeeksestraat and is part of a larger master plan for the area. The traffic axis Vuurkruisenlaan/Van Praetlaan will also be addressed.

The secondary school will be located between Vilvoordsesteenweg and Vuurkruisenlaan. There will be a green forecourt on the side of the latter avenue, while an access road will be built along Vilvoordselaan.

The plot will also house a residential project with 82 flats around a green inner garden. Commercial space is planned on the ground floor, while 47 car parking spaces will be built under the building.

Further down, at the corner of Firecross Avenue and Heembeeksestraat, a 56-place crèche is planned, as well as 29 residential units.

Between the two building projects, space will be kept free for a swamp forest. The guiding principle of the master plan was therefore to preserve the existing open space and build mainly where there is no green space today. Bicycle shelters for a total of 606 bicycles will be constructed across the various building sectors.
