Our colleague Wim Rymenants rescued no less than 10,000 m² of insulation material from the skip at the Toyota Parts Centre site in Diest. Our sustainability experts searched their network and found the right partners to give this material a second life.
Together with the contractor Tectum Group, Materialenbank Leuven developed a logistics plan for the selection, stacking, processing and transport of the material. Since the end of May, the careful dismantling of the insulation for reuse has been in full swing.
To guarantee quality, the insulation boards are being tested by Buildwise. The initial results are promising: there is no measurable loss of thermal performance. As soon as the full test report is available, we will be able to provide customers with a comprehensive technical data sheet.
Several projects are already in the pipeline where this recovered rock wool will be used, including sports halls, schools and social housing projects. The more contractors, architects, project developers and partners we can involve in this, the more material we can give a new lease of life.
As a client, designer or contractor, do you ever have doubts about the feasibility of reusing materials? Let us know – we’ll identify reuse potential, assess technical feasibility, match supply with demand, and ensure that practical and technical challenges are turned into opportunities.
Together, we can thus minimise material waste and reduce the environmental impact of your projects.
Shall we make that difference together?
