Who is ROTS vzw?

ROTS vzw is a non-profit organisation with around fifteen employees that offers renovation advice and guidance to private individuals on behalf of local authorities and public social welfare centres.

The organisation focuses explicitly on vulnerable target groups and has a clear ambition: housing should be affordable, high-quality, humane and environmentally friendly for everyone.

ROTS vzw has extensive experience in:

  • Supporting emergency buyers: homeowners with a property in poor condition and insufficient resources to renovate it.
  • Providing intensive technical and social support during renovations.
  • Neighbourhood-focused renovation projects with individual support at home.
  • Collaborating with cities and municipalities such as Ghent, Sint-Niklaas, Bruges, Wetteren, Zele and Roeselare.

ROTS vzw improves the quality of life and energy performance of homes that would otherwise be difficult to renovate.

Fossil-free as a lever

Under the heading ‘Fossil-free in 2040?’, ROTS vzw is presenting a concrete project for BB FOR.

Based on 15 homes, the following will be carried out for each home:

  • a heat loss calculation;
  • an analysis of the necessary interventions for fossil-free living;
  • an assessment of the cost of this transition.

In addition, the project includes:

  • Internal knowledge building and further training on renovation advice.
  • Formulation of recommendations for policymakers.
  • Presentation of results and recommendations at network days.

ROTS vzw links technical substantiation to social reality. The project highlights what fossil-free living means for vulnerable owners – technically, financially and in terms of policy.

How can you help?

The collaboration with ROTS vzw underlines that the energy transition will only succeed if it is inclusive. Fossil-free construction and renovation should not be a story for those who are already on board – it must also become feasible for those who are at risk of falling behind today.

BB FOR is therefore committed to knowledge sharing, partnership and concrete practical application. Together with ROTS vzw, we are working on solutions that are both technically robust and socially supported.
