Gare Maritime wins RES Award 2020
During the third edition of the Real Estate Society (RES) Awards, or Oscars of the real estate sector, Gare Maritime was awarded as the best Belgian real estate project of 2020 in the category Commercial Buildings .
The former freight station on the Tour & Taxis site has been converted into the largest wooden office building in Europe, which is also completely energy-neutral.
Thanks in part to the creation of a large courtyard garden and trees and the addition of shops, the building is now also known as the 'covered city in the city, where it never rains'.
The jury's verdict: "If one project in Brussels can demonstrate without words that there is a bright and sustainable future for dilapidated heritage, then Gare Maritime. The contemporary interpretation of this impressive and historic station hall, with its innovative working and retail concept, can be called a unique project. Not only does it create a pleasant environment for daily visitors, it also heralds an era of a new kind of urbanity".
