Renovation of the former Academy of Fine Arts.
Renovation and expansion of the former academy in Mons, into the headquarters of the Mons 2015 Foundation. The u-shape of the building has been kept. One side arm which was in poor condition, has been rebuilt. The new gallery opens onto the former courtyard that is now a public square.
Façade in expanded
When selecting expanded metal for the façade finishing, the challenge was investigating a number of technical solutions for:
- the combination of expanded metal and a curtain façade;
- the realization of a combined detail while preserving the performances of both materials;
- the mesh size in relation to the construction's strength and the aesthetics of the façade.
The preservation and renovation of the façade of the existing building required thorough research into the best renovation techniques while taking into account the fragility of the façade brickwork.
